So as some of us know (I think I posted it), Geocities is closing. The end of an era, very sad. I just got an email from lovely Yahoo about this...and even though previously when they announced the closure, they said they'd allow for some kind of bulk download...now they're all "LOL, right-click and save as!" which is ridiculous, because that saves all their extra code and crap, not to mention re-organizes each page into its own subfolders. I'm scratching my head going, "WTF, you said there'd be a better way. That is the least desirable way, outside just ditching it without warning."

I've long since lost my account login and password and let's face it, I've lost interest in those sites I had there. BUT I wanna save 'em for posterity...just an annoying amount of right-click-save. Bah.

1. If you have a Big Lots near you (I believe they are only in the U.S.), go check it! Some anime has been appearing in their DVD bins for $3. I don't live super close to one, so had my mom check at hers (I heard they had xxxHolic & Trinity Blood). Didn't find what I wanted, but she DID find Full Metal Alchemist #12 and a Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles. Go figure! I had her pick those up, even though I hadn't seen the other episodes. Hell, $3, man.

2. I haven't been watching any new anime at ALL. It's not that I've totally lost interest - I think it's that the glut of crap (when anime's popularity exploded) kinda set me off. Also, the animation style goes through revisions as some styles get more popular. I didn't really like the kind of style that was used there for a few years, but it looks like they're moving away from that. Mainly, I just don't have a way to discern what would interest me. Like most media (sci fi books, movies, etc), so much of it is so very similar. It doesn't hold any mystery for my anymore, in terms of inserts from Japanese culture (since they often use the same pop culture references). Like most things during the economic woes (Japan's started sooner), studios are only going to throw money to the ideal best bet - so NOT to anything overly innovative.

I DO have the first DVD of Gurren Lagann, but haven't watched it all the way through yet (subbed - 9 episodes!). I know the Internets were aaaaaaalll over that last year.

Anyway. How about you? Still watching?

Definitely a win. The fonts Dark Horse used were much better than Tokyopop's overly-flowery ones (granted, Clover was one of TP's first prints).

There's one minorish quibble I have - the only original cover you get to see is the first one. Although the volumes are divided by the color interior art, the covers are not present. Weird! (and, obviously, the transparent slipcovers are not present)

HOWEVER. At the end of the omnibus, they included all the lovely Clover prints from the South Side artbook! (those were not in the original or TP Clover volumes)

The pages are thick and heavy, and the size is larger than regular manga (didn't have my TP volumes with me, so couldn't tell you if the omnibus exactly matches those for size). In fact, it was not shelved with the regular manga and instead was with the graphic novels, due to its size.

I'll be buying this, but likely via Amazon or DeepDiscount. I DO try to buy from physical bookstores, but $13 vs $20 is a wee bit too tempting for me....

afraid to fly. Very soon, I may need to fly for a business opportunity (one I would not want to turn down). Friends, I do not say this lightly: I am afraid. -.-
Mostly, I am afraid I'll lose my grip and be one of those "we had to land the plane to deal with the crazy woman" types. Egads.

1. Ahmadinejad will stay in Russia (or some other country) and not return to Iran because:
2. The Ayatollah will "find" that Ahmadinejad worked alone to rig the votes. He betrayed his people! Gasp! (but of course, they KNEW, but didn't know the people would be so upset, so they'll try one last trick to save themselves)

Clover Omnibus Edition - CLAMP

BEHOLD. This is the omnibus edition. I haven't looked at it yet, but I seem to recall a couple of people on here who wanted it. It was actually published last month without much fanfare.

I do already have the Japanese and Tokyopop (flipped, sadly) versions...I may hafta pick this up, being that it's unflipped...

It seems like people are struggling with how to explain homosexuality to young children. It is quite simple.

When I was a very, very young child, possibly 5 years old, I saw a picture of Boy George. He was quite clearly a boy, but decked out in traditional female make-up. I asked my mother what his deal was. Her response was eloquent, non-judgmental and perfectly suited to anyone age 5 or age 55:

"Some men like other men."

OK. GOT IT. *thumbs up* I understood, nodded and continued on with my life (extrapolating later that some women like other women, as evidenced by my cousin and her female friend, who lived together for about 45 years as of this post*).

I just think it's funny how people (even non-religious ones) spazz about how to teach their children that some men like other men...

* Hilariously, said cousin (as butch as butch can be) once told me that she was waiting to find the "right man." OK, honey, you keep lookin'...*snicker*

The Voynich Manuscript...code broken?

Actually, I think it was written by someone who hung out in a faery world and came back with his diary of the strange discoveries. ;)

Possibly.

I keep forgetting to mention this, but last week they decided that they wanted our Flash files so they can "add" to them. Bah. Clearly, they don't want us to work on the project anymore and want their in-house people to work on it.

Amusingly, the dude in our company who built the files is TERRIBLE at organization and coding. They'll be lucky to even get it to open! :D

The meeting they had, btw, in which they made this demand, was alarmingly snarky (I was not present for the meeting). Crazy Client said something along the lines of: "I know you think you're all creative, but we're the creative ones here, and we'll be creating the content." Um, wow. Why would you hire a creative company EXCEPT to provide you creative content? Weird.

I should add that we are both relieved to see the client go and also sorry that it had to be so unpleasant. They didn't really want to pay for all the work they had us do - like design a website - because they decided not to use it all. In this economy, any loss of income is bad, but...yeah. GOOD RIDDANCE.

However, I suspect they'll be back...
